Again with the ears! 😍 I had a husky-collie-whatever mix who started off with dropped ears. As he got a little older, one went up. I told him: "Son, either both up or both down - I don't care which. But I am not having a lopsided dog." He went with both up. 😂

Turkeys at the condo. Deer on the driveway. Cat on the couch. Tree buds about to pop. That’s how I’m starting out this Easter Sunday where I live.

Wishing everyone a blessed and restful day while the going is still good and *hope is still alive* for a United States that is strong, free, prosperous and respected in the world. On a day of new beginnings this is what I’m praying for.

I love Auggie’s Easter Bunny ears. Puppies have so many adorable phases. I completely understand that they also never seem to understand the point of a barrier to keep them out. Bombur just leapfrogs all the barriers, but at least so far hasn’t made it inside the puppies pen as it is 42 inches high. He is only 25 times larger than the puppies — he stares at them quizzically from the outside of the puppy pen this weekend, as all the dogs were allowed one or two at a time in to see the puppies, so they can start getting used to the fact that in a few weeks the pen will go outside at times so they can get fresh air and I don’t want the adults to be worried about it. They look just as quizzically at the bigger dogs from inside their pen. I can’t imagine what they would make of Auggie! One day they will go to puppy class when they are maybe 4 months old and meet dogs much bigger than even Bombur, like Auggie’s size but for now we’ll stick to introducing them to the adults here. We’re having a quiet Easter as it has decided to be grey and rainy. But that’s OK, we need the rain, the Spring has been unseasonably dry so far.

In one of Moses’ advanced training classes—he was also a big shepherd—there was a longhaired chihuahua. He participated in all of the exercises, and lay in a long row of dogs in their down stays, the tiniest vs. Moses, the biggest. The funny part was the jumps—which were part of the training. Moses practically stepped over the jump, but the chihuahua had to be picked up and lifted over it. He was the best chihuahua I ever met: not yappy, not mean, not nippy. I think it was because his owner took his training so seriously. Enjoy all your pups, and a joyous Easter!

Thank you, Ms. Riordan. Happy Easter to you, Mr. Sykes, Eli and Augie. Very happy your turkey reappeared. I love the part of spring when I think I see a green mist and then question my eyes for a few days. Enjoy. ❤️🙏

‘ears to you all on a glorious Wisconsin Sunday. You’ve perfectly captured the advent of Spring in the Midwest: the elaborate joy of knowing winter is maybe, hopefully, finally behind us once again.
