Two things: one, Margaret’s life sounds like a novel, that you could write—I wonder if you’ve considered it. Two, I only recently discovered Willa Cather, and have since read everything I can find by her. As I read Song of the Lark I thought of you often. Should have known you were also a fan.
I love Willa Cather. I read her many years ago, and hope I can find those books if I ever finish unpacking. I moved full time to the farm about 3 years ago after my husband’s passing.
I agree with Jean DoBenedetto, it sounds as though you could write Margaret's stories. So please, do indulge us. I am only still learning about you and have turned into a gracious fan, now I must check out Willa Cather. Thank you for sharing your grief, no matter how long ago it was, you still made me cry.
Oh, my, what a beautiful, heartwarming, heartbreaking, image forcing, raw and soft piece of writing. BRAVO! 👏👏👏 So, yes, I can forgive you for leaving me with fat eyes and a red runny nose.
My grandma used to tell Depression stories that I found fascinating. I could listen to her tell them for hours, sometimes long after everyone else had lost interest. The wealth of knowledge shared by those that lived through things we can’t even imagine is something precious.
You must be a much more disciplined person than I am, I doubt I could write or do much else of anything if I had a sweet old man like Pete to snuggle with and a nice wee puppy dog like Eli to constantly pick up and cuddle with. 😊🐾

Willa Cather is one of my favorite writers.

They will bring you new joys and comfort. Keep looking.

"..What is this?? ..I said I wanted a Pronto Pup hot dog.. NOT a precocious puppy dog!" - Pete 😁😊🐾
Lives that are long-lived and well lived are to be celebrated. 😊
Beautiful piece.
Eli won’t fit in the sink now…
Pete: what is this, mama?
That is very true. Nor could I lift him. But by that time Pete knew perfectly well what a puppy was, and he was not amused.
Pete!
You write so beautifully...I save your writings for quiet times to savor. Sometimes they feel like a prayer. Thank you.
So beautiful. This brought tears.
