I remember thinking I could keep my big dobe off the new sofa when I was away by putting items on the sofa. The first time I came home he was lying stretched out on the top of the sofa's backrest and looking at me with a devilish grin. I then got a cover for the sofa and it became "our" sofa.. And by "our", I mean his favorite place to sit and second favorite place to sleep. (My bed being his favorite place to sleep OF COURSE!) 😁😊🐾
I may have to take a nap after just reading about your list of activities! I applaud your energy and commitment to getting tasks such as the installation of the stair runner completed. I hope everyone survives preparations for the “French Invasion.” Even as I send you encouragement and support, I am having fun enjoying a good chuckle at your expense (sorry😉but that just shows what a good writer you are!).
I agree. I am sure you would have people queuing to dog sit. So good to find a committed dog person. My type of people. Would travel from Australia to help. ♥️
I’m sure you will get most, if not all the things you need done in time for the French invasion. And if not, they are family, not the King of England. 😀 They’ll understand. On a side note, it warms my heart to think that Pete would look at the boys and say, ‘today we ramble this way, boys.’ 🥹
When I had to paint, my 2 Iggies, would smell the paint and decided that painting was my job and they would watch from whatever chair or bed that was in the room. They decided to be supervisors.
My dogs are small, but I totally see myself in your essay. We learn what triggers them & work to decrease their anxiety, because in the end it is all about them. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Whew! Simply a lot. Eli and Auggie care, treats and play. The stair runner project is on a tight schedule. Sending every best wish for a restful sleep. Time for a burger run for Eli and Auggie. Enjoy.
I know you know this, but there are people who could help with some of your invasion-related tasks. You don’t have to tackle everything yourself…..if only dogs could clean!!
This cracks me up! I've also experienced time or calendar "blindness" only to have the full adrenaline rush at remembering. It is motivating, though. My sister and I compete on how many times we must return to retrieve something we left behind. When we leave, we tell the other, "Leaving, take one."
Good luck and God speed. Or should I say bonne chance!
I, too, would love to volunteer to dog sit. I will pay my own expenses to and from Wisconsin and promise to bring appropriate dog treats. I will, also, document their shanagans for your viewing pleasure later, whilst you enjoy your glass of wine. And, all the hard work you’re doing in preparation for the French Invasion, will fall to the wayside when your family arrives and the fun begins. I venture to say Auggie and Eli will be over the moon, too, when your grandsons arrive.
I'd pay $25/hr to play & throw The Green Ball with Auggie and once I got to know Eli a bit then maybe we could play tug of war and perhaps play wrestle. 😁🐾💪🥎
I can see the leaping over the back of the couch clearly. There is also the couch that starts to go over and snaps back after that leap. Been there! Have a Happy 4th!

This all sounds strangely familiar. And yes, of course!
😁

What a day! I’m mightily impressed by your energy, whether fuelled by necessity or habit😉
PS I think we readers would be ecstatic to dog-sit!

And I from Canada🇨🇦

A much better scenario.

Vive La France!!!! 🐕🐕💗

If only they could clean and fold washing while they wait for us to come to entertain them. ♥️
And carry in groceries.
Pete led the rambles … old man Pete knew what to do. 🥰
I (including many of your readers, I’m sure) would love to view a video of Auggie jumping over the sofa! Delightful essay.
Lest there be any misunderstanding, Eli also jumps over the sofa.
I apologize to Eli. Of course, we’d love to see Eli scaling the sofa. I recall the photo of Eli in flight off the pier. Great form!
I will relay your apologies. But he is a bit miffed and may take a while to recover his equanimity.

So glad Charlie is home to assume the dog duties. I’m sure everything will fall into place for the French Invasion! Enjoy your family!

Be careful. You tempt me.
And yes, it is all worth it.
I know from experience it is. And, there’s nothing better than a visit from your grandchildren.

Eli is more of a cuddler than a wrestler. But that would be fantastic.
😁😊🐾
"Les jeunes français sont en visite. Ils aiment courir. C’est bien." - Auggie 🐾🏃🇫🇷 😊😁
Exactement!
