All doggies should have moms like you and dads like Charlie. I think I want to be your dog in my next life.
My GSD developed a fear of thunder around 3 years old. She is unreasonably large at 135 lbs, so a safe place for her is necessary for the rest of the family too. Her safe place is the sheltered front porch, out of the rain, but where she can keep an eye on things. We had Hurricane Beryl pass directly over our home on Monday, and she stayed outside through all of it, dry as a bone.
We're fine, btw. Our electricity was restored after about 8 hours, and we had a few tree limbs down, but our trees are all well away from our house. 13" of rain, but it all drained quickly so no flooding.
I'm so ready to leave Texas, even though I was born and raised here. Just 10 more years until I can get Medicare, and I'm really looking forward to having options about where to live.
That sounds crazy, but I’m so glad you’re safe. And yes, I can think of many reasons to leave Texas. I lived in Dallas for a summer when I was young, and spent a lot of time in Houston. Not for me.
It’s home, so I have very fond memories of it. But now…I’m falling out of love with the reality of Houston.
We live on ten acres about 30 miles south of Houston and 30 miles from the waters of the Gulf. I’m concerned that it will be shore front property before we leave. But for now it’s fantastic having all this space while being reasonably close to everything a major city has to offer.
We had a neighbor dog, another shepherd, who would run to our house in a storm and squeeze herself into the tiny space between the back of the toilet and the wall in our bathroom. Dogs know their safe spaces!
This is a really interesting article on understanding dog behavior. You and your husband have really sorted it out to accommodate Eli and his issues. (We all have them too, don’t we?) He’s not going to change so you have adjusted your expectations and home to give him emotional shelter.
It makes me feel good. Too many dog owners have the animal as arm candy and never delve deeper into the dog’s psyche.
Our family has only ever had one German Shepherd; his name was Jerry Lee and he was my dad's constant companion. My dad often showed Jerry Lee El Pete's picture and discussed what fun adventures Pete was having in heaven. Sadly, Jerry Lee has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. My dad couldn't bear it so my mom was by Jerry's side when passed. Both my folks are doing better now, still grieving, but having Jerry Lee's ashes back home seemed to comfort them. My dad has asked me to place a picture of Jerry Lee in a frame for him so he can place it next to Pete's picture on his nightstand. I will do so with love. My dad said he knows Jerry Lee has met up with El Pete and that he can only imagine what fun (and possibly trouble) they are getting into.
Oh, I so sorry for your parents’ loss of Jerry Lee. Maybe they need to honor him with the love of another dog? Please give your lovely dad a hug from me.
Oh Lordy! The patience, love and empathy you and Charlie demonstrate in this wonderful Eli saga should serve as a lesson to us all. Our country (and the world) would be a far kinder place.
Sweetest baby with the sweetest soul.
What a smart boy. He likes the hum & heat of the dryer. He may be quirky, but he’s very lovable.
Very.
Eli bringing smiles this morning. I can picture this handsome boy safe and sound in many places of your loving home. Good weekend all. Hi Auggie.

Oh Eli...what an amazingly wonderful dog...I love your tales of dogdom. Thanks.
We got our schnauzer at the same time! Wow!
She also has socializing issues among other issues! So……I feel you pain! Yet, we love them dearly!!!♥️
Love Eli. Will try dryer for Bailey!! Also, have two gift subscribers left, how do i add them? Thank you!

P.S. oh, yes, they are definitely causing trouble!

❤️
Growing up, I had a dog that, during monsoon storms or fireworks, would end up on my chest. Good thing she wasn’t Eli size!!!
He does that, too, only he stands on my head.
I hope everyone is enjoying the summer❤️
