This news left me with tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat and the need to cuddle with Walther for a while. Such good tonic, a dog story with a truly happy ending! Thank you SO much for this update, and hopefully it will be the basis for a chapter in a book one day! Happy trails!

So happy to see you and your neighbors showed compassion for this dog. Glad he got taken in before the coyotes got to him.

I think these people would have done fine without me, but I was happy to help.

A lovely story. We must have been separated at birth. I would have done the same thing. I even have the braunschweiger!

Gus! It's awesome that he has a warm place to stay and people who will look after him.

I follow a guy on FB (North Country Drone Search & Recovery) that searches for lost animals, pets and farm animals using a thermal drone. His success rate is over 75%. Before he puts up his drone, he'll put out missing "posters" in the area and in local social media. A dog can cover a lot of ground in a day. 😊🐾

In addition to thermal drone operators, there are also trappers, K9 Pet Trackers that track the scent of lost dogs and cat detection dogs used to find lost cats. I post weekly recovery stories (I have an online pet detective academy and train rescuers there) if your interested. We need MORE people like JF out there finding all these dogs and cats!!

I was on pins and needles yesterday hoping this was a happy ending. It was even better than that now that he has a good home. I was also hoping to hope that you would publish this story today. Thank you, and Gus’s new family.

Absolutely! It was a staple in our house! My grandfather was the US Distributor for Carlings Black Label back in the day…and even though we were too young for beer, we always got a small glass with our Braunsweiger sandwiches!
